David Silverman

Chief Operating Officer


Mr. Silverman, Chief Operating Officer, has substantial experience in the financial services industry, with expertise in exchanges.

Mr. Silverman began his professional career in 1982, as a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), trading futures and options. In the late 1990s, he began trading in the emerging electronic securities and futures markets on various trading platforms. In 1999, Mr. Silverman became a founder and principal of Aspire Trading Company LLC, one of first electronic trading arcades in Chicago. Mr. Silverman has written extensively about the financial services industry, including more than 50 essays for Stock, Futures and Options Magazine, and is the author of one of the first books about electronic futures trading, entitled Direct Access Futures (John Wiley & Sons).  Mr. Silverman has been an adjunct lecturer at the Liautaud Graduate School of Business at the University of Illinois Chicago and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Kent State University Masters of Science Program in Financial Engineering.

In addition to his trading career, Mr. Silverman was elected to the CME Board of Directors four times and served more than 8 years. During his board tenure, Mr. Silverman was actively involved in many of the strategic initiatives taken by the exchange. Mr. Silverman was appointed by the CME Board as the first Chairman of the Board of the GFX and served in that capacity for more than 4 years. Mr. Silverman received his B.A. in History from the University of Chicago in 1981.
